Family! What a delightful word! How exciting it is to prepare for your new baby! And how wonderful it is to have a doula by your side to guide you and help you get to know your newborn. A postpartum doula is a quiet nonjudgmental presence in your home who is there to provide you with assistance in getting you off to a good start. A postpartum doula is there to educate you in the needs of the newborn and to gently guide you in meeting those of your own baby. A postpartum doula is also there to support the needs of the whole family -- fathers, siblings, partners and other caring family members.

While many new parents have family on hand to help out, a postpartum doula can offer you specific guidance with breastfeeding (latch-on techniques, positioning, etc.), attachment bonding, baby-wearing and other coping skills. A postpartum doula is also well equipped with referrals to outside resources that will help in the early days of parenting.

A postpartum doula is there to provide new baby support for adoptive parents too. And most importantly, a postpartum doula is a nurturer, there to help new mothers feel cared for and supported in a time of great change.

Make the best of your first days as parents by choosing the support of a postpartum doula.
